Free Drink, Two Amazon Offers, Triple Hilton HHonors Points, and Complimentary Museum Admission

Finally! Friday is here! Happy Independence Day weekend, everyone.

If you’re flying Southwest tomorrow, enjoy a free cocktail on board.

Southwest Free Drink

The airline extends this offer on various holidays but doesn’t advertise it much, so you’ll likely have to speak up and ask for your free drink.

But at least you can’t complain about the price. 🙂

Triple Hilton HHonors points

Hilton is offering triple HHonors points at participating properties in the Americas through January 30, 2016.

Be sure to read the terms. Also note you must book the triple points rate (see example below) and the stay must be at least two nights.

Hilton 3x Rate

$15 off $50+ on Amazon when paying with American Express Membership Rewards points

This is a nice offer, but it’s targeted and requires having an American Express card that earns Membership Rewards points.

Receive $15 off a $50+ purchase when you use Membership Rewards points to pay.

Amazon MR promo

If targeted, you’ll see a banner at checkout. Click on the “learn more” button then find the box to link your Amex card. It looks like this:

Amazon MR instructions

After following the prompts to link your card, you’ll see the option to pay for your order by redeeming Membership Rewards points.

Here’s the catch: the redemption rate is 1.43 points to 1 cent. That’s a terrible conversion rate.

I value a Membership Rewards point at 1.7 cents, yet this offer only yields about 0.7 cents of value.

So the trick is to redeem just one point on your order (which is all it takes to qualify for the $15 off). The remaining balance is billed to your Amex card.

Payment screen redacted

Don’t forget to use promo code SWP07AXP15.

Note there are also offers for Chase and Discover cardholders. I wasn’t targeted for those, but if interested keep an eye out when logged in to your Amazon account.

Bonus Amazon tip

If you’re a Prime member but have yet to use the Subscribe & Save service, Amazon is offering $10 Subscribe & Save credit with promo code TRYSNS10.

Offer ends July 31, 2015.

Free museum admission

Finally, don’t forget this weekend Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders receive free admission to over 150 museums, science centers, and botanical gardens.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Updated Amex Sync Offers – Save at eBags, Courtyard by Marriott, Loews Hotels, and More

Happy weekend!

We’ve had some pretty epic sunsets here lately so I thought I’d share the view from my run (okay, stroll) the other day:

How ’bout this for a sunset?

Anyway, to the business at hand…

Many new American Express Sync offers have cropped up while others have expired, so I thought it would be useful to compile an updated list.

There are several good travel-related offers including eBags, Hilton, Courtyard by Marriott, Loews Hotels & Resorts, and American Express Travel.

If you’re unfamiliar with the American Express Sync campaign, it’s a great program. Since I began using these offers not even two years ago I’ve saved literally hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars, while exerting minimal effort, on things I would normally buy anyway.

Here’s my primer on how to use Amex Sync deals.

Also remember that many of these merchants sell gift cards. So if you don’t plan to buy anything there during the promotion period, you can buy a gift card for future use and lock in your discount now. Some even sell gift cards to other retailers so you can, for example, use a Best Buy offer to save money on Amazon purchases by buying an Amazon gift card at Best Buy as long as the offer terms don’t exclude gift cards. (But be careful buying gift cards online as those purchases are sometimes processed by third parties and won’t trigger the credit. Merchandise purchased online should be fine, however.)

Terms of note:

  • Use code FLYDULLES.
  • Book by 11:59 PM Eastern today (July 31).
  • Travel between August 19, 2014 and February 28, 2015.

Be sure to consult the T&Cs for blackout dates and other restrictions, and remember that Frontier charges fees for carry-on bags (but items fitting under the seat are free).

American Express Shop Small

In what appears to be a mini-version of an annual holiday promotion from Amex, the company is offering up to $15 in statement credits when you shop with qualifying small businesses in select cities (Houston, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Philadelphia, and Sacramento).

Amex Shop Small (select cities)

$15 is not going to change your life (I hope). But if you’re in, or traveling to, one of these cities in August you might as well eke out a free lunch if convenient. (Hint: if the total bill is over $10, do split payments to maximize the deal.)

As always, please read the full T&Cs, but here are two of note:

  • Must register and pay with an eligible card. (Registration begins August 1.)
  • Must spend at a “qualifying small business location.” (A directory will be available starting August 1.)
  • Promotion ends August 31, 2014.
